Christmas on Arcadia

We’re off early tomorrow morning on long-awaited Christmas cruise on Arcadia. What could be nicer? – seven nights at sea, and Christmas dinner included. It’s a pity is the North Sea in December, but that latter bit goes pretty unavoidably with Christmas. I shall be blogging as usual, so please check back in for updates. […]

We’ve received our ‘Information’ booklet from P&O; the formal statement of the itinerary, the lists of excursions, the luggage labels. The main point about it is that it’s another step that tells us the time is approaching. As Val has just said when she looked through it, “We must be going…”. In this case there’s […]

Since booking a bag with the Baggage Handling Company last weekend, we’ve received a letter from them. It contains a couple of luggage tags and some instructions. The instructions give some details about the operation. Among other things, it says: We will collect your luggage 3-4 working days prior to your departure for delivery to […]

We’ve been getting ready for the Christmas cruise on Arcadia. I think i mentioned a few weeks ago that I’d bought the train tickets to get us to Southampton and back – it being December, we don’t fancy driving. But this week we’ve taken another couple of steps. I’ve had a bit more opportunity to look through P&O’s just-announced programme for summer 2015. Oriana and Aurora definitely seem […]

I posted a number of articles about Arcadia’s refit both before and during the work. In the end a possible review of the work was hijacked by the news of the delay to the end of the refit and the consequent cancellation of a two-night cruise. P&O have now posted a number of images of […]

Arcadia has left Bremerhaven and is on her way back to Southampton. The Southampton VTS site is saying that her expected arrival time is shortly after midnight tonight (Sunday) – you’ll need to dig around in the site to find the expected time of arrival, but start by looking at ‘Live Information’ then go on […]

I’ve come across a possible reason for the delay in finishing Arcadia’s refit. Apparently the very strong winds that affected many parts of northern Europe last week made it too dangerous to use the high cranes that were necessary to lift and install the new cabin deckhouse which is being fitted on the Sun Deck. […]

Arcadia will be delayed getting back to Southampton, and as a result her next cruise, a two-night cross-channel cruise, will be cancelled. The stated reason for the delay is strong winds in Northern Europe. There’s a statement on the P&O Facebook page, but here’s what it says: “Unfortunately due to strong storms in Northern Europe […]
