Another quiet week

Yet another very quiet week from me, I’m afraid. However things will improve quite soon – we embark Azura in just over a week’s time for a 14-night cruise to the Western Mediterranean. We booked this in April last year, so we’ve been waiting almost eighteen months; let’s just say that we’re good and ready for it. Val especially has been very busy at work since last summer, working on-site several days a week which has required many nights away and lots of driving. She’s clearly ready for her holiday, and I’m hoping that the complete relaxation on the cruise will be what the doctor ordered. I’ll post more about our cruise in the next few days, and of course I will be blogging from it.

Other topics:

  • I’ve mentioned ship deployments to China several times, and this trend has continued. MSC recently announced that one of their ships, MSC Lirica, will be deployed to China year-round from next May. However this seems a very cautious step – Lirica is one of MSC’s smallest ships. When her current stretching operation is completed she’ll have a capacity of about 2,600 passengers (standard occupancy). In fact given that she’s just 65,000 tons that’s not much space per passenger – Quantum of the Seas, for example has a standard passenger occupancy of 4,180 and a tonnage just over 168,000 – almost three times the space but less than twice the number of passengers.
  • Talking of QotS, Malcolm Oliver covered an interesting announcement by Royal Caribbean regarding the dining arrangements on her when she’s deployed to China. Dynamic Dining (about which I did a few posts) will be out, it seems. Here’s a link to the relevant post on Malcolm’s site.

Finally, a little disappointment. I may have mentioned đŸ˜‰ that I’ve been nominated for Best Cruise Blogger in the Cruise International Awards. Well, this week I received an invitation to the awards dinner, but unfortunately we won’t be able to attend. I think we have a good excuse, however; the dinner is on the 16th, so we will in fact be cruising!

Tom, I was nominated for ‘Best Cruise Blogger’ a few years ago (and lost), but I DID NOT receive an invitation to the awards dinner.

Maybe this means that you have won?
