I understand that Carol Marlow and Peter Shanks are leaving P&O and Cunard, respectively, in September. This is described as a commercial restructuring at Carnival UK – their posts (as MDs of the two lines) are disappearing. Their departures were announced by Gerard Tempest, the Carnival UK commercial director. I blogged about him when he was appointed, and at that time I wondered what his role would be. Now we know – something of a hatchet man. He works for David Dingle, who remains as Carnival UK CEO; Dingle will take over the formal roles of President of the two lines. New posts of marketing director and ‘insight director’ will be created, presumably covering both lines.

Mr Tempest has only been in post since December, and as my earlier blog post made clear, Carol Marlow and Peter Shanks reported to him, instead of to David Dingle, after his arrival. I wondered at that time what the impact of his arrival would be; now we know that it’s pretty brutal. I wonder where the two brands are going now?

Sad, having just returned from a P & O cruise under new management, our 22nd cruise and last P & O ‘pub’ cruise, even the crew look dejected
    Down market in every respect.
