The prices are coming in for Oasis of the Seas’ cruises in Europe and as I expected they are not cheap. I mentioned in a previous post that inside cabins for the two 5-night cruises were likely to be £599 – that’s just about £120 per person per night. Now I’ve heard the prices for the other cabin categories: £689 for ocean view cabins, and £809 for balcony cabins; that’s about £138 pppn and just over £160 pppn. And that’s without flights, so the overall cost of a five-night cruise in a balcony is going to be around £1100 per person, or over £200 pppn. That’s even higher than I had expected, and too much for me, so unfortunately I’ll have to give it a miss. The 7-night cruise from Barcelona to Rotterdam looks a bit more reasonable at £1039 for a balcony cabin – that’s a tad under £150 pppn – but the itinerary isn’t very exciting.

Of course, I’m saying “I’ll have to give it a miss” as if I could have booked if I’d wanted to. In fact I’ve heard that interest in these cruises has been huge, and that they will sell out very quickly, so in practice I might never have been able to book. Ah well – perhaps we’ll do a land/cruise holiday to Florida one day.

As I predicted: ‘Premium’ prices for a ‘standard’ product, but on an amazing ship!

I bet there is a bit of gamesmanship here form RCI to create demand. I suspect all 3,000 or so cabins will NOT sell out as quickly as they suggest!
