Apparently it’s National Cruise Week. No, I was surprised too…. running from 18 September to 25 September, it’s organised by the Association of Cruise Experts (ACE). This seems to be a cruise-focused travel agency industry training and advice body, mainly working with local travel agencies and home working agents (i.e. not Thomas Cook).

I think the purpose of National Cruise Week is to have a focused set of campaigns to sell more cruises to potential passengers. I have to say I’m not sure if it’s working. My first encounter with it came in the form of a mention in emails from various on-line TAs last week. Given that I receive these emails because I’m already interested in cruising and have registered on their websites to receive them, in telling me about the offers they’re definitely not hitting a new market. But I’m not sure if that’s actually the intention.

Yesterday I did see an advert (full page) in the Guardian Travel supplement headed “Introducing the National Cruise Week Promotion”, but nothing else. I wonder how references to National Cruise Week there’ll be ‘in the wild’ this week?
