We’re on another cruise, and as usual I shall be blogging. This will be our longest yet – 17 nights. It’s on Ventura, and is our third cruise on her. It includes two days in Venice, plus calls at Malaga (just half a day), Cephalonia, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Corfu and Vigo. The cruise is therefore quite heavily weighted towards the Adriatic with six successive days in port, plus a couple of calls in Spanish ports to bookend the Mediterranean portion.

Having stayed in a Travelodge the night before we drove to Southampton on Friday morning and arrived at the Ocean Terminal at about 11:20. There were no queues for car parking, we drove straight into the drop-off zone and were in the terminal within a couple of minutes. It was about noon before embarkation started, and we were on Ventura at about 12:20. In fact we were so early the buffets were almost empty and the Beach House was’t even open.

After lunch we identified which days were going to be formal nights – there are five on this cruise. We learned that they will be on the third, sixth, eleventh, thirteenth & fifteenth nights, so there’s a significant preponderance for the later part of the cruise. Also, one of these is not a sea day – the third formal will be on the day we’re at Korcula. We wanted this information so we could book some meals in East and the White Room on non-formal nights, and we managed this early in the afternoon. There was a desk in the atrium which was making bookings for both of these plus Ramblas. In the event we booked our meals in East at the restaurant – we were walking past it – but we made the booking for the White Room via the atrium desk.

Next came that first drink, which thanks to the cool windy weather was a glass of wine out of a plastic glass at the Beachcomber bar, under a closed sliding roof! Never mind, it still tasted good. After that we went to our cabin where our bags had already been deposited. Unpacking them and attending muster drill took us up to sail away. Then it was time to prepare for dinner.
